Using evidence and reason to do the most good
Effective altruism asks the question: how can we do the most good with our time, money, and resources?

What is effective altruism?
A philosophy
Using reason and evidence to find the most effective ways to help others.
A movement
A global network of people and organizations putting the ideas into practice.
Who are we?
We are a local chapter of Effective Altruism at NYU. We are part of a growing social movement with university chapters at most top universities around the world, based on the idea that good intentions alone, while admirable, are not enough to have an impact. Instead, we are committed to combining compassion with reasoning and evidence so that our choices do the most good possible.
We are effective altruists at NYU who are passionate about answering the question: "How can I do the most amount of good?"
We recognize that: We are in a unique position to do good, and it's important that we care. Through rational decision making, we can make a much larger difference. And that we can, and do, enjoy doing it!
